Modulix is an open-source WordPress plugin built from Elementor Pro’s own GPL code: same widget names, same settings, same Theme Builder conditions. Check what works today before you switch.
After the switch: Elementor Pro inactive, Modulix active.
Illustration: header templates built in Elementor Pro render the same markup under Modulix.
Templates and settings stay as they were.

In beta: a readiness check before you switch
v0.7.0-beta.1 (pre-release)
Activate Modulix while Elementor Pro is still active and open Tools → Modulix, or run wp modulix check: it lists what your pages and templates use that Modulix does not cover yet, with links to those pages, plus the themes and plugins that call Elementor Pro. Nothing is changed and nothing leaves the site, and after the switch those themes and plugins get the matching Modulix classes. It is a beta, so try it on a staging site first.
Next: Custom Code and carousels (0.7.0); then the full Theme Builder app with its conditions editor, Loop Grid, Forms, popups and WooCommerce. The step-by-step plan is in ROADMAP.md.
To help, pick a roadmap step: each one is a GitHub issue and a pull request, and steps labelled “good first issue” are widgets without server endpoints.
Later: Modulix MCP, a Model Context Protocol server, so an AI agent can build and edit pages, templates and design on an Elementor site and check the result.
How the switch works
Rollback
To go back, deactivate Modulix and activate Elementor Pro again. Modulix does not change your templates or settings.
1
Download the zip
Get the modulix zip from the latest GitHub release.
2
Back up the site
Do this before you change any plugin.
3
Upload, do not activate
Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, upload the zip and leave it inactive.
4
Deactivate Pro, activate Modulix
Modulix 0.6 and earlier refuse to activate while Elementor Pro is active.
5
Regenerate CSS, clear cache
Regenerate Elementor’s CSS files in Elementor’s Tools, then clear any page cache.
How it is built and tested
Modulix reuses Elementor Pro’s GPL code instead of rewriting it, so the features on the list render the same markup as Pro. In production since October 2026.
tools/lift.py
ElementorPro→Modulix
ELEMENTOR_PRO_*→MODULIX_*
elementorProFrontend→modulixFrontend
Lifted by a script.
A script copies the Elementor Pro files Modulix needs and only renames the namespace, constants, text domain and JavaScript globals. Upstream: Elementor Pro 4.0.4. A test fails while any Pro namespace, constant or text domain is left in the code.
base/base-widget.php// Modified by Modulix (2026-10-23): licence trait (Base_Widget_Trait) and query-control import trait (On_Import_Trait) removed.src/Frontend.php// Modified by Modulix (2026-10-23): script handles modulix-*, config ModulixFrontendConfig, no preview script,
// no licence or connect data, static helpers for lifted modules.
Trimmed in separate commits.
Separate, reviewable commits remove licence checks, telemetry, Elementor Connect and upsells. Also removed: the cloud template library, AI features and update checks against Elementor servers.
Elementor Pro
Modulix
Checked before release.
Before any parity work, every lifted AJAX or REST endpoint is read for its permission check and for request data that reaches a query. Then each module is compared with Elementor Pro on a test site: markup, layout at desktop and mobile width, scroll and menu states, console and PHP errors.

// Modified by Modulix (2026-10-23): namespace ElementorPro -> Modulix, text domain -> modulix.
GPL, credits kept.
Modulix is licensed GPL-3.0-or-later. Every file taken from Elementor Pro keeps Elementor’s copyright line and says what Modulix changed. The original program is Elementor Pro by Elementor Ltd.; Modulix does not claim to have written it.
Who builds Modulix
I’m Gatis Daugavietis, and I have worked in web development and UI/UX for 18 years. I built Modulix for the Elementor sites I maintain, so it covers the Pro features those sites use first. Questions, widget requests and pull requests are welcome on GitHub. If you want to say thanks, you can donate; it is optional and unlocks nothing.
Elementor Pro’s code is licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later. The GPL lets anyone run, study, change and share the code, as long as shared versions stay under the GPL. Modulix is GPL-3.0-or-later too, and every file taken from Elementor Pro keeps Elementor’s copyright line. The licence covers the code, not the name, so “Elementor” appears here only to describe compatibility.
Will my Elementor Pro templates keep working?
Yes, if they use the features listed under What works today. Modulix uses the same widget names, settings and Theme Builder conditions, and renders the same markup as Pro. Check the list against your site before you switch.
What if my site uses a widget Modulix does not have yet?
That widget stays empty while Modulix is active. From the 0.7 beta on, a readiness check lists every such widget, dynamic tag, template type and feature before you switch. Keep Elementor Pro on that site until the widget is on the list. To ask for a widget, open an issue on GitHub.
How do I roll back?
Deactivate Modulix and activate Elementor Pro again. Modulix does not change your templates or settings.
How do updates work?
New versions are published as zip files on GitHub Releases. Modulix does not check Elementor’s servers for updates. To get notified, use Watch → Custom → Releases on the GitHub repository.
How is Modulix different from PRO Elements?
PRO Elements (ProElements) describes itself on GitHub as a plugin that “enables GPL features of Elementor Pro: widgets, theme builder, dynamic colors and content, forms & popup builder, and more.” Modulix takes a smaller set of Pro features, removes upsells, and compares each module with Elementor Pro on a test site before release. Forms and popups are not in Modulix yet.
What does Modulix cost?
Nothing. Modulix is open source under GPL-3.0-or-later, with no licence key and no paid plan. If you want to support the work, you can donate; donors get the same plugin as everyone else.
Which Elementor and PHP versions does it need?
WordPress with Elementor (free) 3.34 or newer, and PHP 8.1 or newer. It is tested with Elementor 3.34.2 and 4.3.5.
How do I report a security problem?
Privately, through GitHub: Security → Report a vulnerability on the Modulix repository. Please do not open a public issue for it. You will get an answer within a few days. Security fixes go into the latest stable release, and into the current beta while one is out.
Read the code, then switch.
Every file taken from Elementor Pro says what Modulix changed, so you can check it before you install.
